Watkins Glen is always one of the great events of the year. This year the new track surface resulted in everyone’s lap times improving by a couple of seconds. Wet weather made its usual appearance, but thankfully things ended up sunny on Sunday, and the three Duntov client cars for Tony Parella, Susie Patterson and Colby Hillman did very well.

Tony Parella drove his immaculate 1958 Corvette to a second place finish in the Group 4 race on Saturday ahead of Susie Patterson in the Cobra. Saturday evening, to the delight of more than 10,000 spectators, both Susie and Tony ran their cars in the reenactment of the original race through the streets of downtown Watkins Glen. Colby wisely chose to sit that one out. Big block Corvettes with racing clutches don’t do well on city streets!

The weekend was not without mechanical challenges. A bushing failure on Colby’s front suspension caused him to have to limp through the only dry qualifying session of the weekend, and when his car was fixed, the track was wet. Colby had to start at the back of the field for both the sprint race and the Enduro. In the Sprint race he shouldered ahead of nineteen cars, which is about all you can do in an six lap race!

In the Enduro, Colby and Edward came from behind to win Group 6 and to beat all the Group 5 cars and all but two of the Group 7 cars as well ? another overachieving effort by the Ohio veteran and his young teammate.
